This has been the longest that WM:RTS has ever gone without an update so thanks for sticking in there. The server has clearly been a bit emptier lately. This is of course due to me not updating it as frequently, but it's also just a bad time of the year. Many players, including myself are students and this is about the time where finals really start to take up a lot of our time. I'm glad to see that even with such limited updates there were still 10-15 of you who visited the forums every day.
I finally finish my 7th final today and will be free to develop for at least a month. However, I will be taking a trip back home to my native Chicago, where my internet connection may be questionable in speeds. So for the next few days the server is going down and will be getting a new IP. When I get to Chicago I'm going to figure out whether to upgrade the connection or just rent a fancy server. Considering the telecom monopolies running up near Chicago upgrading my personal connection looks unlikely, so I think I'll be renting out a server.
This is going to mean some server down time during the transition. I also need to find a good hosting company and I definitely shop around so that might add some down time while I look. If you have any suggestions or know of any deals, let me know. Server location will likely be in Chicago or Dallas as both have great connections to Europe and the entire US.
On the plus side the server will likely be much faster. It's still going to lag a bit if there are 200 melons, but bandwidth will no longer be an issue. This means we can have 12 players or so if I desired. I'll be paying for this out of pocket so donations are welcome and of course you'd get reserved slots and permanent donator status.
Once the server goes up I expect a minirevival of WM:RTS as I will be adding 5-10 new maps to the server, new content, bug fixes, and a lot of people should be getting on their summer breaks. I'm planning on releasing at the end of my break, but as always I can never be positive on that. I will essentially be working almost full-time on WM:RTS, with some breaks for real life and to work on the Third Age: Total War mod (which I consider one of the greatest games, let alone mods I've played).
Now that I'll have a lot more free time I'll also be able to address some of the ideas that I haven't been able to address on the forums.
